Our Story
Our family roots have a deep connection with agriculture that goes back to Thomas Chappell landing on the banks of the James River in 1635. He and his early family settled in present day Merchants Hope, Prince George County, Virginia and immediately began using the land to provide for his family. Fast forward to 1780, a descendant William Chappell moved thirty miles inland to present day Dinwiddie County and continued the journey. Today, there are several families living on and working the land that directly ties to our forefather. We are blessed to be one of those families that continues to own and maintain a portion of that heritage.
Today, we currently produce corn, soybeans, wheat, and sorghum. In 2022, Katie returned to the family farm from NC State University, where she received her AAS in General Agriculture. Katie and her brother, Matt, are the seventh generation of Chappell Farms where they work alongside their grandfather Earl, and father William. For Chappell Farms to continue growing for future generations Katie decided to diversify by adding beef cattle to the existing grain operation. We now manage a cow/calf and feedlot operation alongside the crops. We value Faith, Family, and Farming, therefore we strive to honor God throughout our business and be stewards of the land and cattle he places in our care.
